Contract for the use of data from the DMII (BÍN)

The parties to this contract are The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies (kt. 700806-0490), hereafter also referred to as the rightsholder, Neshaga 16, 107 Reykjavík, and the receiver of the data, hereafter referred to as the recipient.

Beygingarlýsing íslensks nútímamáls (The Database of Icelandic Inflection (DMII), hereafter referred to as BÍN) is a collection of inflectional word forms, originally produced by Orðabók Háskólans (The Institute of Lexicography) in fullfillment of a contract with the Ministry of Education and Culture from 2002. From 2004, the rightsholder was Orðabók Háskólans, which became a part of The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in 2006.

According to the terms of this contract, the BÍN data is accessible free of charge, from Nov. 5th, 2009.

The rightsholder allows the recipient the use of the BIN data, according to the following conditions, agreed upon by the recipient:

  1. Intellectual property rights for BÍN, whether involving copyright, related rights, design, trademark rights or other rights, now contained in law, or that may later become law, belong to the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, hereafter the rightsholder.
  2. The recipient of data from BÍN (hereafter the recipient) is required to accredit the right holder clearly in the user interface of all products based on the data, under this agreement.
  3. Distribution of material from BÍN to a third party, in whole or in part, is not allowed. Inclusion of data from BÍN in software is only allowed when all parties receiving the software undertake to observe the conditions on the data in the same manner as the original recipient.
  4. Publication or reproduction of paradigms from BÍN is not allowed. Permission for the use of BÍN does not include use in software for producing paradigms from the data without a special contract.
  5. Alterations of the data are forbidden if the product or results are in conflict with the original data, thus containing wrong or misleading grammatical information, as all data from BÍN has to be accredited to the right holder, cf. section 2 above.
  6. All rights to products made in accordance with these conditions belong to the producer of the software, i.e. the recipient. The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies requires notification of such products, with the provision that the Institute is allowed to make use of such products, without compensation, but also without the right of distribution.
  7. The right holder does not guarantee that BÍN will be suitable for a specified use or specific circumstances. The right holder is not under any circumstances liable to the user for damages connected to the use of BÍN, such as indirect damages, lost goodwill or lost profits.
