Ordinals

The word class for ordinals is adjective. The inflection of the ordinals is identical to the inflection of the positive degree of definite adjectives (‘weak’ inflection). The only exception is the ordinal annar ‘second’.

The grammatical features of ordinals are gender, number and case.

Gender HK (neuter), KK (masculine), KVK (feminine)
Number ET (singular), FT (plural)
Case NF (nom.), ÞF (acc.), ÞGF (dat.), EF (gen.)
Examples:
þriðji;KK-NFET ‘third’ masc.nom.sg.
fjórðu;KVK-ÞFET ‘fourth’ fem.acc.sg.
fimmtugasta;HK-EFET ‘fiftieth’ neut.gen.sg.
annar;KK-EFET ‘second’ masc.gen.sg.
